Mark Kydd - actor/writer/director


Born and raised in Dundee, Mark studied dance and drama from an early age. He attended Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, where he was awarded the Ian Richardson voice prize. 


Theatre includes Macbeth (Edinburgh International Festival), Iphigenia In Tauris (Golden Age Theatre), Mary Rose, Rough Crossing and Dangerous Corner (Perth Theatre), Assassins (Rapture Theatre), Egil, Son of the Night Wolf (Grey Coast Theatre), The Chalky White Substance/The Municipal Abattoir and The Bridge (Glasgay). He was chosen for the development workshop of Tripitaka Theatre's Hot Dogs And Eternal Triangles at the Ovalhouse, subsequently appearing in the show in London, Hong Kong and Singapore. 


His recent work includes Horizontal Collaboration (Fire Exit), An Island Between Heaven and Earth, Once Was Human (Hidden Door Festival), Solstice (Assembly Productions), I Look: I Divine (Brighton Fringe), Burke and Standing Stanes (both Siege Perilous) and Cinderella (Platform). Television includes Taggart: Angel Eyes and Outlander.


Mark's directing credits include Spring Awakening (The Space, Dundee) and Bad Girls: The Musical (Stanwix Arts Centre). Recently he has branched out into writing, co-creating and performing Spain at the Citizens Theatre in 2011.


His first self-penned solo show there were two brothers premiered in 2014 and toured throughout Scotland in Spring 2015.


In another departure, Mark has collaborated with fellow actor Laverne Edmonds to create The Reel Edinburgh Tour, the first-ever walking tour dedicated to Edinburgh's movie connections!
